Pinterest Fail…?

Not all of Pinterest is amazing. Sometimes people are SUUUUUUUUUPER talented, and try to pass off their talent as something that is “SUPER EASY!”

Um No.

You have no need for wondering here. I am NOT super talented. Most of my talent lies in sewing… and even that isn’t stunning. I do practice and try– and it’s better than my cooking, but you won’t find me selling things any time soon!

Today’s Pinterest fail… actually comes from Pilsbury. I love me some pre-made dough. I also like home making bread, but there are times you have 2 hours of homework to go over with your two kids, and you get home at 5 pm, and waiting 30 minutes (or spending 30 min) on making dough seems like a lot of work. So pre-made dough it is!

So I was working on this pin and I made it as per specs… or so i thought… smoothed it out, thin as I could manage. Toppings added (I used spaghetti sauce, pepperoni, and cheese!) Then I coated the outside with my Italian seasoning, which is a bit different the the actual recipe but not enough to cause problems. I cooked it as per instructions (on the can, not the pin) and ended up with GOO.

Why? Because the pin (picture) was different than what is actually at the website! First of all, I’ve learned, from my Pizza loving husband, that when using pre-made dough, you CANNOT use spaghetti sauce. It *MUST* be pizza sauce. Why? Because Pizza sauce has less fluid in it. the excess fluid from the spaghetti sauce causes the dough to not be able to dry out and cook. Also, I had the temp (from the can) set too high (450) when the recipe on the website has it set to 350. The cook time is longer (at a lower temp) too!

SO. Really this pinterest fail is on *ME* for not paying closer attention 🙁 I’m going to give this recipe another shot. I would caution that eating under cooked dough will make you GASSY! So so so gassy! The food was still tasty, but less appealing when you know that A) it’ll make you bloated, B) It’s mooshy.

Hoping to try this again next cooking cycle! I’ll save my ratings until then!

Dare I say it?

I think I do.

I’m going to get it all together soon and make some lactation cookies. I learned that with Katie last time you can’t go into Breastfeeding half handedly.  I had some problems that I’m trying to remember and keep in mind this time for a less stressful situation.  I will probably want to make these cookies ASAP just so I have them handy.  This is the following recipe:

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Mix the flaxseed meal and water and let sit for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Beat butter, sugar, and brown sugar well.
  4. Add eggs and mix well.
  5. Add flaxseed mix and vanilla, beat well.
  6. Sift together flour, brewers yeast, baking soda, and salt.
  7. Add dry ingredients to butter mix.
  8. Stir in oats and chips.
  9. Scoop onto baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 12 minutes.
  11. Let set for a couple minutes then remove from tray.
I’ll probably have to wait until next month to do these, since I don’t have brewers yeast, flaxseed or oats… Unless they mean oat meal? I’m not sure. I am not cooking adept. LOL I am crazy like that. I used to have flaxseed, but I think it got tossed in the move (sorry mom, who was generous and gave it to me) I still need to cook and freeze a few things. I have been wanting to try chicken tacos for a while. Maybe tonight I will pull out chicken (frozen) and let it thaw so that tomorrow night we can have chicken tacos!
I was discussing with my mom this weekend how unusual it is that so many families (my own included) don’t eat dinner at the table together like I did as a kid. My mom was GREAT at making sure we all had dinner together. Sometimes we were plus or minus a few kids (friends over, gone to a friend’s house and later out on dates or at work) but we always ate at the table (although i can recall on a few occasions that we sat and ate in the front room, but it was usually summer and it was too hot to be that close to the oven!) My mom was/is a great mom. I feel bad sometimes that I use work as an excuse not to do things like have dinner at the table. My mom always cooked us dinner after a long day at her old job, which was exhausting. I remember h elping… faintly. I can also remember as a kid not helping as much as I should have. I’m paying for it now. I don’t cook … well? I cook alright. I can cook a few things…. But I’m not a master chef or anything. If I had paid closer attention I also might have learned how not to get overwhelmed in the kitchen. I also think I might need to put a baby gate up so that Katie can’t run around in the kitchen while I”m working. It’s tough to discipline her and get things cooked. (Another reason I don’t cook terribly often, If I have to choose between Katie time and cooking dinner, guess what wins?)
In any case. I do need to cook some. My mom made Chicken Enchilladas the other day for my brother’s B-day and YUM YUM YUM! The definately needed olives (everything should have olives!) but they were so yum. Also there is something infinately tasty about a meal you didn’t cook yourself. I’m glad my mom is such a good cook! I think I will need to make a thing of chicken Enchilladas to freeze, and I’d like to freeze up some other things. I should start a list….
I mentioned to the therapist last week that I went to that I am obsessive with lists. He asked if it was a helping thing, or if It was damaging my functionality. I said it was mostly helpful to keep my brain from being less scattered. With my ADD I tend to skip from activity to Activity without much thought. I’m not trying to be scatter brained… I just am. Which reminds me I need to do a grocery list. I love grocery shopping day. 🙂 I don’t enjoy when katie runs from us in the store. She thinks it’s a game. 🙁
better get to list making…

Clay Aiken Is some kind of … Musical Elf

Oh Clay Aiken, the things you do to my brain. You make me think when I’ve taken Nyquil. Shame on you.

Right, So I was supposed to work three hours tonight, but I came home early on account of me feeling like crap. Which was Okay. Guts bought me some root beer (a whole six pack, he’s so nice to me) and I came home and took some Nyquil, and i’ve been out like a light since.

The Mouth went out Drinking tonight. I shouldn’t be so concerned about it. But I am, what can I say. Just like he worries about me following the Monkey around like a puppy, i worry about him picking up on Lesbians. I don’t know. I think mine has more room for concern, but… still. Being out drunk seems like a bad idea, especially when he’s sick like he is. (Thus the reason i’ve been feeding him soup, he refuses to take medicine… it annoys me. at least he’ll eat the soup though.)

I’m pretty tired. The Nyquil is kicking furiously at my system, telling me to go to sleep. Maybe after I read some homework– then I can go to sleep. I just want to get some work done first… right. 🙂

So what if it’s bootleg?

Does NO ONE take pride in their work anymore? I mean, you buy some Bootleg anime, and you expect at least for it to play in your fetching DVD player. I have to admit that this is the first time that my DVD player has made sounds of STRAIN while trying to play a dvd. I mean it makes the hummy noises, that are normal, but it whirrs and chokes like death is at it’s door. It’s slightly fitting that the anime i’m trying to play is called Slayers isn’t it?

*sighs* Enough of the complaining about my anime that i’ve been waiting a week to watch, but now however cannot because of the crappiness of the quality. *grrs*

I went to see Brother Bear with Artemis and Dateless (or Undateless, if that makes any sense) The mouth and his ex…. while it felt nice to go and hang out with them, and i was quite pleased that Artemis invited me to come along– the movie BLEW. I think Disney has gone quite downhill, involved too deeply within macabre story lines. Certainly they have stopped producing children’s films and now simply produce them for the necrophiles of the world. It was nice that it was just the five of us in the theatre so we could scream at how stupid it was. The only redeeming part to the film were the canadian Elk (I think they were elk– or caribou i guess… which ever. Moose?? I have no clue… i’m wild animal illiterate) who were a blast. They made you laugh, and forget how dirty you felt watching a film where two of the main characters die within the first half an hour. Happies.

I THOUGHT I lost another contact down the drain… I really did. Then I was sewing today and my brother found it, on the counter. Damn thing went all invisible when it hit the counter, so I couldnt’ find it, i figured it had gone down the drain like it’s predecessor.

Lets see– Um. Poor Marco has Pneumonia (which is quite a kick since I had it too back in the day.) and I made him soup, and his wife some brownies. It was nice to see him, even if it was for five seconds before i had to scoot off to work (which went nicely…)

Anyway– I’m off to see if the nice customer service people are going to take the dang anime back….

I’ll get every ep with James, for you!

More about WCI, just because i was in a hurry before, like a total prat, i didn’t explain where it is, and what not, and why i’dbe going there.

Okay. *sighs* The Culinary (Baking and Pastry in specifics) arts isn’t my first choice in what i wanted to be when i grew up. In fact, it never even came into mind. But more recently, i’ve been a baking fiend. I cook for my co-workers, I cook for their roomates, and i love it. I love to have people eat things i’ve cooked and say it’s good. IT’s a barrel of warm fuzzies, without the hand-holding goodness. Anyway, I want to learn how to do it better, baking and what not that is. Breads, cakes, cookies, the lot. If you can make it in an oven, i want to do it. I’m sorta scared of stoves, so i shy away from that. Heh.

WCI is in Oregon. I can hear Red screaming “OREGON! THAT’S FREAKING ALL THE WAY !!” and so on… but the thing is, they have another branch of the same place in Nevada, and one in Arizona. So I could go more, southernly, and stay near her, 😉

Red should remember that I love her the way she is, and that she doesn’t have to listen to the hellish choir that she is forced to hang out with, she means tons to me, and if she went any further south, i’d cry.
